Nestled in the vibrant heart of West Hollywood, Kimpton La Peer Hotel stands as a testament to refined luxury, offering a refined yet inviting experience for travelers seeking both comfort and style. This established five-star establishment is ideally positioned, allowing guests to explore the eclectic mix of art, entertainment, and culinary delights that the area boasts. I was last year in 2019 and was curious if there were any changes or improvements made to the property. Needless to say, there were some great and some not-so-great changes to the hotel.

When considering a stay at the Kimpton La Peer Hotel in Los Angeles, IHG Rewards members will need to be aware of the points required for redemption. Typically, Kimpton properties in the area can range from 40,000 to a whopping 80K points per night depending on the season and occupancy rates. However, it is essential to note that in some cases, the cash rates may offer better value than redeeming points, especially during peak travel periods or special events. For instance, if a night at Kimpton La Peer is priced around $250, redeeming 40,000 points would equate to a value of approximately 0.625 cents per point. In contrast, if cash rates are lower than 0.625 cents per point, it may be more advantageous to pay in cash rather than redeem points.

During our one night stay, we took advantage of the $200 Amex Hotel Credit from our Amex Platinum Card, resulting in an out-of-pocket cost of only $102.89. Compared to the cash rate that was going close to $400 a night, it was a great value when you add the perks and benefits that come with Amex’s Fine Hotel and Resorts program. Overall, using the credit greatly offset the cost of the original cash price.

Upon entering the Kimpton La Peer after a six hour drive from the bay area, we were greeted by a stylish and inviting lobby that reflects the trendy artistic vibe of West Hollywood. The design showcases a blend of contemporary art and sophisticated décor, with warm lighting and eclectic furnishings that create a welcoming atmosphere. The lobby serves as both a social space and a tranquil retreat, lined with comfortable seating areas that invite guests to relax or mingle. Our front desk manager, Gregory, was fantastic and made the experience super friendly and amicable. Kudos to the staff for helping us throughout the stay!

As an IHG Platinum Elite member, the check-in experience felt seamless and personalized. Upon arrival, guests are often acknowledged for their elite status, with a dedicated reception area ensuring a swift process. The staff is warm and attentive, genuinely eager to enhance the stay experience. Guests may also receive a complimentary welcome drink, which can be enjoyed while the check-in details are finalized. We utilized the Raid the Mini Bar ($20) value for the amenity, which allowed us to get a snack and a big bottle of water in the room.

Unfortunately, the subpar pressure can detract from an otherwise luxurious bathing experience, leaving guests wanting more from a hotel that prides itself on superior offerings.

We utilized our breakfast credits and ordered a few other dishes, which made for a super delicious experience. The scrambled eggs were some of the best, and the freshly squeezed juice was fantastic. Service was great and super friendly, and would greatly recommend anyone to have breakfast over here.

Unfortunately, some visitors have reported issues with low water pressure, which can detract from the overall experience. In addition, there was an issue with the mini bar charges, which were incorrectly billed. Although this was an unfortunate inconvenience, the hotel staff was prompt in rectifying the mistake after a phone call, showcasing their commitment to customer service. While the issue was resolved quickly, it still detracted from an otherwise pleasant experience at the hotel.

Comparatively, Kimpton also has other notable properties in Los Angeles, such as Kimpton Everly and Kimpton Hotel Wilshire. While both provide luxurious amenities and experiences, Kimpton La Peer stands out for several reasons. Located in the vibrant West Hollywood area, La Peer offers a more boutique experience, with a focus on contemporary design and a unique outdoor atmosphere that includes a stunning pool and trendy bar options.
